Before Sophie Shirley was drafted to PWHL Boston, she played at Wisconsin University, winning three NCAA National Championships. An off-ice fun fact about Sophie is she has played the piano since she was five!

What was being a part of the inaugural PWHL Draft like?

Shirley: It was so cool being able to be there in person for the first one ever. I had my mom and my auntie there with me which was a super cool thing to experience with them.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Shirley: I think being able to see into the future just because I want to see where I’ll be five years down the road and have things planned out for myself.

You had a lot of on-ice success during your time at Wisconsin, what was your favorite memory and why?

Shirley: Probably the first time we won [the National Championship] in 2021 because I won with my sister. She was on the team with me for four years, but I think winning with her in 2021 was my most special moment.

What was the biggest transition from college hockey to professional hockey?

Shirley: The physicality. Obviously, going into it, we knew that physicality would be a huge thing included here [in the PWHL]. I think for me, adapting to that and being able to play my game while working through the physicality.

How long have you been playing the piano and what is your favorite song to play?

Shirley: I’ve been playing the piano since I was about five or six years old and my favorite song to play is Canon.
