WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

The home team has won each of the last six meetings between these teams, including all three this season (first two by Toronto at Coca-Cola Coliseum, last one by Boston at the Tsongas Center). Boston has one win in Toronto, in their first visit last season (Jan. 17, 2024, at Mattamy Athletic Centre).

Boston beat New York, 4-0, on the road on Wednesday, tying a franchise high for goals. All five of the previous four-goal games by the Fleet (including one in last year’s playoffs) came in home games. It was also Boston’s second regular-season shutout (2-0 in Minnesota on Feb. 25).

Jamie Lee Rattray had one point (a goal on Dec. 17) in her first 13 games this season but had a goal and an assist on Wednesday. Rattray has recorded multiple shots on goal in each of her last three games after doing so in just four of her first 11 games this season.

Aerin Frankel has won five straight games following her first shutout of the season on Wednesday. During her win streak that began on Jan. 5, the Fleet netminder has posted a goals-against-average of 1.16 and save percentage of .955. She ranks second overall in wins (7), GAA (1.87), and SV% (.931) behind Montréal’s Ann-Renée Desbiens.

The Fleet used three third-period goals to pull away from New York on Wednesday, giving them 16 goals in the final frame this season. The only PWHL team with more is Toronto, who has 17 third-period goals. However, Boston’s +5 goal differential in the third period leads the PWHL, while Toronto’s +2 ranks third.

Toronto beat Minnesota, 3-2, in overtime on Tuesday and has now earned at least one point in five straight games (2-1-2-0) since losing to Boston 4-1 on Jan. 22. It was the Sceptres’ first overtime/shootout win this season, improving their record to 1-4 in such games (they were a perfect 4-0 in games decided beyond regulation last season).

Renata Fast scored the overtime winner with 3.7 seconds remaining in Tuesday’s game – the latest goal ever scored in an OT period in PWHL history – to extend her point streak to four. She is the only defender with two game-winning goals this season and they have come in consecutive games. Her 14 points are tied with Minnesota’s Claire Thompson for the most by a defender, and her four goals are tied for the position lead with Boston’s Megan Keller and New York’s Ella Shelton.

The league’s two longest active point streaks are on the line tonight with Toronto’s Daryl Watts and Boston’s Alina Müller both at five games. Both players have two goals and five assists for seven points during their respective streaks.

Watts enters the game with the league-lead in shots on goal with 52, one ahead of Fleet captain Hilary Knight whose 51 shots lead her team by 20. Sceptres captain Blayre Turnbull ranks fifth with 48 shots on goal. Sarah Nurse’s 51 shots were most in the league prior to her injury.

On Valentine’s Day in 2024, Toronto defeated Boston 5-3 led by a hat-trick performance – the first in team history - by Natalie Spooner. Emma Maltais had a career-high three assists.

“We are looking forward to a good battle against Boston tonight. They have some momentum coming out of their last game, but I like the matchup with the grit and team game that we have been playing and building upon every day.” - Sceptres defender Megan Carter.
