WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Montréal entered the break with a 2-1 road win over New York after the Sirens scored a 4-1 road win over the Victoire in December. Of the six games in matchup history decided in regulation, four have been won by the visiting team.
The Sirens have scored multiple goals in all seven of their road games this season, tied for the longest such streak by any PWHL team this season. Last season, New York never had more than four straight road games with two or more goals.
The top three plus/minus ratings this season on the Sirens all belong to rookies – Gabby Rosenthal (+6), Maja Nylén Persson (+5) and Sarah Fillier (+4). Rosenthal is the only rookie leading her team in plus/minus this season.
Ella Shelton leads all active PWHL players in shooting percentage at 25%. The Sirens defender has four goals on 16 shots in 10 games.
Abby Roque leads the league in faceoff winning percentage at 63.4% among centers with more than 75 draws (104/164), followed by Kristin O’Neill (MTL) at 60.2% (118/196).
Jade Downie-Landry, one of three Québec natives on the Sirens, scored her first and only goal of the season at Place Bell on Dec. 4. The goal stands as New York’s only shorthanded ‘jailbreak’ goal of the campaign.
The Victoire have won a team record five straight games and five in a row in La Belle Province with their lone home defeat this season coming to the Sirens on Dec. 4. Montréal has just three regulation losses at home in the team’s regular-season history, with all other PWHL teams having at least five.
In Montréal’s last game, Marie-Philip Poulin scored two goals four minutes apart in the second period. It was Poulin’s second time this season with multiple goals in a single period (also in 2nd on Jan. 29 vs Ottawa), making her the only PWHL player to do so twice in 2024-25.
Montréal has the most goals scored in any period this season with 22 goals in the second period. New York has allowed just nine goals in the second period this season, the second fewest allowed in any period this season (Montréal, eight in first).
The Victoire lead the league in scoring among rookie defenders with 10 points (Cayla Barnes, 7 & Anna Wilgren, 3), followed by the Sirens with nine points (Nylén Persson, 5 & Allyson Simpson, 4).
Kelly-Ann Nadeau, from Mont-Laurier, will make her PWHL debut on the Victoire blue line. The former Université de Montréal Carabins is one of three PWHL players who competed in U SPORTS last season with New York’s Emmy Fecteau (Concordia) and Toronto’s Rylind MacKinnon (UBC).
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“We’re looking forward to the challenge tonight in Montréal. We know we have to be better, and that starts with playing a fast, disciplined game and making sure we compete on every shift. This group believes in what we’re building, and now it’s about executing, staying connected, and finding ways to generate offense. We’re focused on playing the right way and getting back to the level we expect of ourselves.” – Sirens Head Coach Greg Fargo.
“For our group, it was helpful to have the week to allow people to feel better and recover and be ready for game time. We know that against New York, they're going to be hungry for a win. There's a team over there that you know is trying to get wins right now, and that's our mindset. We're preparing to come in and be game ready as soon as the puck drops. And starting on time is key for us. And we know that we're going to be playing a pretty tough on the other side.” - Victoire Head Coach Kori Cheverie.
SATURDAY’S GAME: The Victoire will be hosting its Minor Hockey Day, as teams from the Greater Montréal area will be in attendance in what promises to be a loud Place Bell. Canadian singer-songwriter Roch Voisine will be in attendance to unveil a new song made in collaboration with the Montréal Victoire called Pour La Victoire. Fans will have the chance to see the music video on the venue’s jumbotron prior to the game. Janicka Alie-Thivierge will be singing the national anthems. Chloé, Xavier and Noah, three actors from the Québec television series Premier Trio will perform the ceremonial puck drop. They will also meet fans at the Rocket District section (behind 115) at 12:30 PM ET.
