WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
The road team has won all three games between these teams this season - the Charge won the first two meetings before New York posted a 3-0 shutout at TD Place on Jan. 27. It was the second shutout in the seven all-time games between these teams, with Ottawa scoring a 3-0 win in Bridgeport last season.
The Sirens snapped their five-game pointless streak with a shootout loss to Boston on Sunday. They also snapped a streak of four straight games allowing at least four goals. Prior to that streak, New York allowed at least four goals just twice in its first 14 games.
Kayle Osborne, who hails from nearby Westport, ON, earned her first career win and shutout against her hometown team on Jan. 27 when the Sirens were last victorious. She also played on Sunday in Buffalo with a 30-save performance in her second shootout loss. Despite just one win in seven appearances, she leads all rookie goaltenders with a 2.02 GAA and .927 SV%.
Jessie Eldridge saw 24:43 of ice time on Sunday, second most in her PWHL career (27:49 against Boston on Jan. 31 of this season), and tied a career high with seven shots on goal (also Mar. 3 of last season). Sunday was also Eldridge’s third game this season with a goal and a penalty, tied with three others for the most in the league.
Abby Roque is one of 11 players to take more than 200 faceoffs this season (220) and leads them all with a win percentage of 61.8%.
Ottawa beat Montréal, 3-1, at home on Saturday, improving to 5-0-1-0 this season when scoring at least three goals (2-0-3-8 with two or fewer goals). It was the third multi-goal win for the Charge this season (fewest in the league), along with a 3-1 win over New York on Dec. 29 and an 8-3 win over Minnesota on Feb. 13. Last season, they had eight such wins.
Emily Clark extended her point streak to five games by scoring Ottawa’s second and third goals on Saturday after picking up the only assist on the first goal. The PWHL’s First Star of the Week is the fourth different Charge player with a three-point game this season (Shiann Darkangelo, Gabbie Hughes, Tereza Vanišová), tied for the most such players by any team.
Vanišová has been at her best since returning from international play with six points (5G, 1A) in her last four games. The Czech winger ranks third in the league with nine goals and has scored against every team but New York.
Emerance Maschmeyer has started all three games against the Sirens this season posting a 2.04 GAA and .923 SV%. Those figures are better than her full-season marks of 2.42 and .920. She is tied with Boston’s Aerin Frankel with 403 saves.
The Charge have seen 31.8 percent of their total points scored by defenders this season, the highest mark in the league, led by Jincy Roese (9). The Sirens have seen defenders score 23.8 percent of their goals this season, also the highest mark in the league, led by Ella Shelton (5).
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“Our team is eager to get back on the ice tonight. With just a third of the regular season remaining, we’re on the clock to play our best hockey. Every game is an opportunity to raise our standard, and tonight is no different. There are a lot of aspects of our game we can build upon from our last outing in Buffalo, but we know Ottawa is playing some good hockey, so we want to be at our best and compete from the first drop of the puck.” -Sirens Head Coach Greg Fargo.
“We've been working hard to build a stretch like this (collecting 7/9 PTS). I think there's a big confidence boost, but you can't rest on that. You must keep building, and we've got an important game tonight. Then, we’ll have a week break and it's going to be another strong push that we're going to have to put together. We're building confidence in who we are and, from the coaches to the players, we know we're a great team in this league.” - Charge Head Coach Carla MacLeod.
WEDNESDAY’S GAME: The Charge will celebrate Black History Month with the league’s final Unity Game in February. Players will arrive at TD Place wearing Black History Month shirts designed by Montréal-based multidisciplinary artist Kezna Dalz, symbolizing unity and the celebration of Black excellence in hockey. Black Girl Hockey Club Canada, a non-profit organization focused on breaking down barriers for Black women, their families, and allies in hockey will be at the game. Members of the NSL’s Ottawa Rapid FC will also be in attendance, including Jazmine Wilkinson, who shares her journey as a Black athlete in a special video feature that will be shown to fans in-game.
