WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Minnesota scored a 6-3 road win in the last meeting between the two teams back in December. The nine combined goals are tied for the most in a single game in PWHL history with a 6-3 Montréal win over Ottawa on Feb. 24 last season.

In their win against New York, Toronto scored a goal in the final two minutes of the first, second and third periods. It was the first time in PWHL history that a team scored three times in the final two minutes of a period in the same game (excl. OT).

Toronto notched 35 shots on goal in their 4-2 win over New York on Saturday, their third straight game with at least 35 shots on goal. For the season, the Sceptres have five games with 35+ SOG, two more than any other team this season.

Hannah Miller’s two-goal performance on Saturday earned her PWHL Second Star of the Week honors. Her six goals this season are tied with Kendall Coyne Schofield and Alex Carpenter (NY) for the league-lead.

Kali Flanagan, who is riding a two-game point streak, scored her second empty-net goal of the season on Saturday. Toronto has now scored four ENGs this season and the only other team with multiple empty-netters is Minnesota with two. Last season, Toronto notched eight ENGs (including playoffs), the most of any team.

Izzy Daniel, a Minneapolis native, will play at home for the first time in her PWHL career. The Sceptres third-rounder won the 2024 Patty Kazmaier Award playing for Cornell University.

Five different players had multiple points for Minnesota in their 5-2 win over Boston Sunday. It was the Frost’s third time this season having four different players with at least two points in the same game. No other PWHL team has had that happen even once this season.

Coyne Schofield notched a career-high goal and two assists on Sunday for her fourth multi-point game of the season. That is tied for the most such games in the PWHL this season with Jessie Eldridge (NY). Three players, including Miller and teammate Taylor Heise, have three multi-point games.

Heise’s two-goal performance on Sunday earned her PWHL Third Star of the Week honors. She’s one point shy of tying her 13-point rookie season total.

Eight Frost players have been selected to participate in the final two games of the 2024-25 Rivalry Series during next week’s International Break. Minnesota has the greatest representation of any PWHL team on the U.S. roster with six players including forwards Coyne Schofield, Heise, Britta Curl-Salemme, Kelly Pannek, Grace Zumwinkle, and goaltender Nicole Hensley. Defenders Sophie Jaques and Claire Thompson have been named to Canada’s roster.

Frost forwards Denisa Křīžovā and Klárá Hymlárová will join Sceptres forward Noemi Neubauerová at home in Czechia to compete in the final leg of the 2024-25 Women’s Euro Hockey Tour. Team Czechia will play Switzerland and Finland in a three-game event to wrap up the four-tournament series.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

“I’m super excited to be back in my home state playing in front of friends and family. To have an opportunity to play professionally in front of all the people that have supported me throughout my career is surreal! Minnesota is a top team in the league at this point in the season so I’m expecting a tight, physical game against them.” – Sceptres forward Izzy Daniel.

“Sunday was a step in the right direction for our team. With a break coming up we’re looking for another total team effort, and we’ll need it tonight against Toronto. They’re one of the most talented teams in the league and are getting healthier. It’s been great to spend so much time in front of our home fans, and we’re hoping to give them a good show tonight.” – Frost Head Coach Ken Klee.

TUESDAY’S GAME: Tonight marks the midpoint of the regular season for Minnesota and the end of a busy 30 days for the Frost with 10 games - including seven at Xcel Energy Center. The Frost will be away from home until Feb. 23, with an 11-day road trip following the break with games in Toronto, Ottawa, Boston and Montréal. The Frost have five St. Paul home games remaining, including two more against Toronto. Including tonight, the Sceptres have three games in five days to bring their season total to 15 games at the break.
