WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
The Frost and Victoire have split their four meetings this season, with each game decided in regulation. Minnesota won the last matchup, 4-0, the largest win and only shutout win for the Frost this season and by any PWHL team against Montréal.
Minnesota lost at home to Toronto, 2-1, in their most recent game. It was just the third time the Frost have failed to score multiple goals in a game this season, tied for the fewest in the league with Montréal.
Michela Cava scored on the power play against the Sceptres, the lone Frost goal. She is tied for fourth in the league in goals this season (eight) and tied for third in power-play goals (three). Among 43 PWHL players with at least 30 shots on goal this season, Cava is third in shooting percentage (21.1%).
Many Frost players will be paying close attention to the WCHA Final Faceoff this weekend in Duluth, MN with multiple alumnae from all four participating teams: Five former Minnesota Golden Gophers (Lee Stecklein, Kelly Pannek, Taylor Heise, Grace Zumwinkle, Lucy Morgan), three former Wisconsin Badgers (Mellissa Channell-Watkins, Natalie Buchbinder, Britta Curl-Salemme), three from the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs (Michela Cava, Maddie Rooney and Maggie Flaherty) and two Ohio State Buckeyes (Liz Schepers and Sophie Jaques). The Coaching Staff also has a connection to this weekend's WCHA tournament – Assistant Coach Chris “Critter” Johnson is the son of Badgers Head Coach Mark Johnson.
Montréal beat Boston, 3-2, in overtime over the weekend. The Victoire have won eight of their nine games decided by one goal or a shootout this season (4-4-1-0). That is the best record and most wins in the PWHL in one-goal games this season.
Kati Tabin scored two goals for the Victoire against the Fleet. It was the first ever multi-goal game by a Montréal defender in the PWHL and the fifth multi-goal game by a PWHL defender this season. Tabin had two goals in 42 PWHL games prior to that game.
Laura Stacey owns a three-game goal streak, which matches the longest streak for Montréal in their PWHL history (Stacey also had a three-game goal streak last season, Jan. 24 to Feb. 4). Her goal against the Fleet was her second overtime winner this season, the first PWHL player with multiple OT goals in 2024-25.
Marie-Philip Poulin is on a three-game point streak (1G, 3A) and has tallied assists in three straight games for the first time this season. She is tied for the Victoire lead with three points (2G, 1A) in four games against Minnesota. Jennifer Gardiner (1G, 2A) and Erin Ambrose (3A) also have three points against the Frost and are tied for the team lead with 10 assists.
Tonight’s matchup features the PWHL’s top two teams in even strength goals with Minnesota at 45 and Montréal at 40. The Frost also lead the PWHL in points by defenders at 45, followed by the Victoire at 38.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“We need to start this road trip off with a great effort tonight. Montréal is a good team, they are explosive and they play a good 200-foot game. We need to match their energy and play our game for all three periods.” - Frost Head Coach Ken Klee.
“I thought we were a completely different team in our last game against Minnesota. I'm looking forward to getting back at them and having that challenge in front of us. I don't think we deserved better in that game. I thought that Minnesota executed their game plan. But I'm really looking forward to our players bouncing back against that group.” - Victoire Head Coach Kori Cheverie.
TUESDAY’S GAME: The Victoire will host the PWHL’s first Women's Empowerment Month Unity Game. The team will recognize ParaHockey Féminin du Canada and president Émilie Robitaille for her leadership and dedication to advancing the sport for girls and women with disabilities. Featured community organizations also include Pivot Collectif, an initiative launched to drive economic sustainability and growth in women’s sports, and the Nomades du Collège Montmorency women's soccer team, who won the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championship last fall. Fans can purchase a Women's Empowerment Month T-shirt, with proceeds going to ParaHockey Féminin du Canada. Intact Insurance will give rally towels to fans as they enter Place Bell. Cherylyn Toca will sing the National Anthems and DJ Tizi will create the March Break party atmosphere.
