WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
The Charge (3-0-0-0) picked up all nine available points against the Sirens at Prudential Center this season, but New York accumulated points in both games (1-0-1-0) at TD Place against Ottawa.
The Sirens lost their most recent game to the Charge, 5-2, despite outshooting them 36-31. New York has recorded at least 35 shots on goal seven times this season (most in the PWHL) but lost in six of those games.
Abby Roque has scored in two straight games against Ottawa, including the league’s first-ever ‘Michigan’ goal on Saturday. It was her second time recording a goal and five hits in a game this season - all other PWHL players have combined for three such games this season, with no one else doing it multiple times.
Ella Shelton has scored the Sirens’ first goal three times against the Charge this season and has a point in all four games she’s played in the season series (3G, 1A). New York leads the league with 14 goals by defenders, with Shelton scoring seven of them.
Jaime Bourbonnais is riding a career-high four-game point streak (1G, 4A) following her first multi-point game of the season (2A) against the Charge on Saturday.
Kayle Osborne, born in Westport near Ottawa, backstopped the Sirens in their only victory against the Charge this season, a 3-0 shutout on Jan. 27.
The Charge have won four of their five matchups against the Sirens this season, scoring five goals in each of the last two games in the series. Ottawa has scored at least five goals just once against all other PWHL opponents this season (eight on Feb. 13 vs. Frost).
Ottawa had four different players record multiple points in their last game against New York: Tereza Vanišová (3G), Brianne Jenner (1G, 1A), Gabbie Hughes (2A), Jincy Roese (2A). The only other time this season that the Charge did that was on Feb. 13 against the Frost (seven different players).
Vanišová, the PWHL’s First Star of the Week, recorded her second hat trick of the season in her last game against New York, becoming the first player in PWHL history to record multiple hat tricks in a single campaign. All other PWHL players have combined for two hat tricks this season. Ottawa had two hat tricks during the inaugural season in back-to-back games by Daryl Watts (Mar. 23) and Jenner (Apr. 20). All four games with an Ottawa hat trick have featured at least one goal by their captain.
Gwyneth Philips had 34 saves and a .944 save percentage on Saturday in her first game against the Sirens. Only one other PWHL rookie has matched those marks in a game all-time: New York’s Abbey Levy on Jan. 28, 2024 against Minnesota (35, .946).
Emily Clark leads all players in scoring during the season series with six points (4G, 2A) in five games.
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
“Our team has the unique opportunity to play these guys back-to-back in such a short time span. Every game is important from here on out for us. I think this group just needs to commit to doing the little details to set us up for success. Hockey is a game of mistakes and what I want for this group is for us to capitalize on our opportunities, be so sound defensively that they don’t see many. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain from this last stretch, and we won’t stop working to gain.” - Sirens alternate captain Ella Shelton.
“If you look at the standings, there’s nothing regular about this game. We must recognize that everybody that we are facing is in the same mindset that we’re in. We have to stick together as a team and take it a shift at a time. I really like the direction we are going and where we’re at. It’s not lost on us that every game matters, but here we are, right in the thick of a playoff race.” - Charge Head Coach Carla MacLeod.
TUESDAY’S GAME: The season series between Ottawa and New York comes to a close at TD Place with considerable impact on both teams' chances of qualifying for playoffs. The Sirens are eight points behind fourth-place Minnesota and the Charge could leap over the Frost and into fourth place themselves with a win in regulation. The third last game of the season at TD Place is sponsored by Schneider Electric and will honour Women in Uniform. The ceremonial puck drop will feature women who work with the Ottawa Fire Department (OFD), Ottawa Police Services (OPS) and Ottawa Emergency Services (OES). Canadian Armed Forces will also be represented by more than 160 members, with some participating in an All-Star game in the afternoon at TD Place. Jocks in Jills podcast hosts Tessa Bonhomme and Julia Tocheri will be in attendance and doing a live recording on the concourse between Gate 1 and Gate 2 from 6:05 to 6:20 p.m. OPS, OFD and OES will have stations behind sections 17, 18 and 19, and GoodLife Fitness Lansdowne will be set up behind section 20.
